Part 97 – Proverbs 17 Wisdom

OUTLINE:

Charles Spurgeon
“Do you believe that your sins are forgiven, and that Christ has made a full atonement for them? Then what a joyful Christian you ought to be! How you should live above the common trials and troubles of the world! Since sin is forgiven, can it matter what happens to you now?”

Humility Towards The Word!
If you are not reading your Bibles a little bit every day, you are doing yourself a great disservice. You have no idea how greatly you will miss out over time!

We all reap what we sow; righteous decisions reaping blessings and unrighteous ones reaping discipline. In both instances, God is expressing His love by providing encouragement for us to stay on the righteous path.

Humility Towards The Word!
If you submit to the Word as vital food for your soul each day, there will be a wonderful cumulative effect. The Lord will bless you and open your eyes to more and more of His grace and truth. The result is greater and greater spiritual health and peace over time! Is 55:10-11, Jn 8:32

Jn 8:31-32 NASU
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;  and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Humility Towards The Word!
With the right motivation of His love in our hearts, which comes from learning the Word, we’re able to represent Him properly with things like “fine speech”. Pr 17:7

Practical Results
Fine speech gives us “something to really grab onto” in our souls!! (like the small rope hanging down from an attic door – think of fine speech giving you easier access into another’s soul!)

Out of the Darkness
Fine, gracious speech can help open the eyes of the hearts of others, that they might see their need for something greater, something pure; a relationship with God Himself.

Privileged Messengers We Are!
Who are we to carry the words of eternal life on our lips?! God uses PEOPLE to pass on His wonderful messages. The question is “are you willing?”

Practical Results
Fine speech can open up a crack in the soul of another, that they might actually listen to the Good News of God.

1 Co 13:1
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal… That’s how your words sound to others when they don’t come from a root of love!

Gracious Words Show Love!
That’s the power of thinking first and having gracious speech. Allow His love to take over in your soul before you speak. Allow His Spirit to rule your soul in that moment! Eph 5:18-19, Col 3:15-16

Think of the Power of Our Words!
We must pause for a moment with people and make sure they realize we care about them and their future… and by grace, this loosens the soil of their heart to receive the Gospel in humility.

“Seasoned With Salt”
Think of how much salt makes plain food taste better. Seasoned words will be much more readily received, as we speak the truth in love. Eph 4:15

“Seasoned With Salt”
Salt is one of God’s natural preservatives. In a spiritual sense, having gracious speech can help keep the soul of others from spoiling. Mt 5:13, Mk 9:50

“Have Salt In Yourselves”
We must utilize the opportunity the Lord has given us… we mustn’t waste it away and become tasteless because we choose to be selfish or we let the world drag us down.

“Seasoned With Salt”
“Although our language should always be gracious, it should be equally honest and without hypocrisy.” – William MacDonald
Jesus is our primary example of this, ala Jn 4:10,16, 5:14, 8:11.
