Part 6 – This Is My Commandment, That You Love One Another

OUTLINE:

Obedience always implies submission to an authority.

Heb 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Encouragement
The end goal of worldly encouragement is benefit to self, whereas the end goal of Biblical encouragement is benefit to God.

Rom 7:7-8
Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.

Encouragement
The end goal of worldly encouragement is benefit to self, whereas the end goal of Biblical encouragement is benefit to God.

The greatest thing I can EVER encourage you to do is to OBEY God.

1Ti 1:5
The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Ps 51:3-4
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

Encouragement
The end goal of worldly encouragement is benefit to self, whereas the end goal of Biblical encouragement is benefit to God.

Gal 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Ecc 12:13-14
The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Encouragement

1Ti 1:17
To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
