This is the slight and tender reproof of a friend, meaning manifestly if you had proper love for me; if you had the highest views of my character and work; if you would lay aside your Jewish prejudices, and put entire, implicit confidence in what I say…“you would have rejoiced.”
“see”
from horao – means to see, look upon, experience, perceive, discern; also translates “behold”. Practically speaking, implies focusing on that which you know to be true (e.g., “what kind of love the Father has given to us”)

Those who are true believers have this characteristic – they abide in the Word. This means that they continue in the teachings of Christ, they do not turn aside from Him. True faith always has the quality of permanence. They are not saved by abiding in His Word, but they abide in His Word because they are saved.

Keep your eyes squarely focused on Jesus Christ at all times! Maintain focus – do not be distracted. REMEMBER the Word that has been spoken to you! This is what it means to “be filled with the Spirit” (ala Eph 5:18; Col 3:5-17).
