Part 4 – The Root Cause of a False Gospel

OUTLINE:

Saving Faith is a Grace Gift
If, in any way whatsoever, a person misunderstands Jesus’ statement, “What is impossible with man is possible with God” (Lk 18:27), it’s very possible they misunderstand His Gospel!

Saving Faith is a Grace Gift
Only God’s elect will ever believe – belief is a grace gift from God. Man does not generate saving faith from the condition of total depravity in which he was born – that’s impossible.

Jn 10:3b-4
The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

To God Be the Glory
To slight God’s glory is to slight one’s own sanctification, for you cannot be sanctified in the absence of respect for His glory. (Ps 24:7-10; 1Co 2:8; 1Pe 4:14; 2Pe 1:17)

The Satanic Way
The easiest, arguably the most popular, way of twisting the Word of God is to take it out of context. (e.g. Mt 4:1-11)

Deu 12:32
“Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it.”

How likely are you to trust the soap a smelly man espouses?

The Root Cause of a False Gospel
Man has a terrible, though predictable, habit of stealing God’s glory for himself – STARTING with the Gospel!

2Ti 1:9
Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.

Progressive/Experiential Sanctification
The more we are beholden to God’s glory, the more we are sanctified. They are two sides of the same coin. (2 Co 3:18; Eph 1:17-18)

“transformed”
from – metamorphoo [meta = “change after being with” + morphoo = “changing form in keeping with inner reality”]; means being changed on the outside to conform with what’s on the inside; refers to experiential sanctification (e.g. purification); the mind is in view here, in context.
Your life on Earth is meant to bring glory to God, not yourself.

Jas 1:5-6 [Message]
If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.

Pro 24:16
for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
