OUTLINE:
The Deceitfulness of Sin
We are largely on the lookout for subtleties, regardless of the topic or angle the Spirit has us focusing on (i.e.- self-deception, gratitude, partiality, idolatry, worship in music, etc.).
1Th 5:16-18
Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
What Are We Celebrating?
Celebration demands a root cause; otherwise, it is unfounded emotionalism. How can we “supposedly celebrate” Jesus if we don’t know the Word of God (Him)? Wouldn’t this be nothing more than celebrating for the sake of celebrating (aka – to satisfy your emotional desire to “feel” good)?
What Are We Celebrating?
Many “Christians” have supplanted worshipping God with celebrating their feelings regarding Him. Yes, there’s a difference, and it matters. The DIRECTION of one’s affections make all the difference (towards God vs. towards self).
Fleshly Justification/Reasoning
“Well, even though I might not be genuinely worshipping the Lord when I listen to so-called ‘Christian music’, it’s the lesser of two evils! I could be listening to the local R&B station.” Response: The “lesser of two evils” is, guess what?…still evil.
Distractions
Is it possible that you turn on the radio to “drown out” the convicting ministry of God the Holy Spirit; or, to distract you from facing the “real music”???
Fight for Quiet Time!
You have to learn to MAKE time for prayer, worship, and introspection! (Mt 6:6, 14:22-23; Mk 1:35-37; Jas 4:8; Ps 1:1-6)
The Beattitudes – Mt 5
The Greek definition for the word translated “blessed” means “blessed, happiness”. We must think of godly happiness as being “in the sphere of” fellowship with God. “For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light” (Ephesians 5:8). (cp. Ps 37:1-7)
