TODAY’S VERSE:
Hebrews 11:3 “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”
In prep school we learned about the two explanations for how the world was created- what the Bible teaches, Creationism, and what the world teaches, evolution and its supporting theories. Since there is no one around who was alive at that time, besides God of course, neither can be physically proven and both require faith to believe in. Faith is trusting in something without having physical proof that it is true. The Bible defines faith as…
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
We have faith in lots of things; that we will wake up every morning, be able to open our eyes and see, continue breathing, and be taken care of by our parents. As we have faith in these details, so we should also have faith in what God says about creation, like today’s verse tells us.
So, what exactly does the Bible have to say about creation? In Genesis 1:1-2:2, God shares the details of how He created the world in 7 days and what exactly He made on each day; day 1- light, resulting in day and night, day 2- the sky, day 3- land and its trees and plants, day 4- sun, moon, and stars, day 5- birds and sea creatures, day 6- land animals and humans, day 7- He rested. You should stop right now and read this passage, it is truly amazing!
Obviously, many unbelievers do not believe this to be true. Since they do not believe in God, they also do not believe that God created the universe. These people believe in evolution and its supporting theories. Have you ever heard of the Theory of Evolution or the Big Bang Theory? Well, they both are a bit complicated, but they basically state that matter simply came into being with no divine (Godly) influence. Then, this matter changed over billions of years to become simple life forms. After billions and billions of years these life forms evolved (changed) into more complex life forms, which eventually evolved into the plants, animals, and people you see now. They also teach that people evolved from monkeys.
So, the Bible states that the world around us was created by an all-powerful, loving God. This same God created people in His very own image, according to His plan, and gave them a purpose to live for His glory. While the world system tells us that the universe and all of its life just came into being with no plan and that people evolved from monkeys with no purpose.
We do not know about you, but the truth seems obvious. The world’s theories are a bit sad and provide us with no security. Creationism, however, shows us that we have a Heavenly Father whom we can trust, a God who loves and has a plan for each and every one of us. How do we know we can trust that what the Bible says is true?
Psalm 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless…”
It is quite simple- God is perfect and His Word is the absolute Truth. So, we can rest in the fact that God created our world and that our Creator loves us very much.
