TODAY’S VERSES:
John 10:27-29 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
We have finished up our series on Salvation and we certainly hope that you have a better understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and are a bit more comfortable with the idea of sharing it with others. Can you think of a question folks might have after they learn how to be saved? They will probably wonder if they can lose their salvation. It is a very good question. Today’s verses and the verses below tell us what the Lord Jesus Christ had to say about this during his Earthly ministry.
John 6:39-40 “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
The Lord clearly tells us that His children have eternal life given to them and they cannot be taken from Him and the Father. We should all take time to think about this amazing fact and what it means to each one of us, personally. Here is what it meant, at least in part, to the Apostle Paul:
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Amazing, huh? He emphasizes what the Lord said- NOTHING can take God’s children from Him, including our sin. Once we are born again and saved, we are a part of God’s family FOREVER! He will not turn His back on us because we fail. He already knows we are going to fail because He knows everything about you. He even knows how many hairs are on your head- no joke!
Luke 12:7 “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Do you know what all of this has described? Eternal Security! Do you know what that means? Eternal is defined as “lasting or existing forever; without end or beginning” and security is defined as “protection; freedom from fear, anxiety, and danger”. So, eternal security means that believers in Jesus Christ are forever protected and are freed from the fear and anxiety of losing their salvation! The kids in prep school defined it as “being safe and sound forever”! Pretty nice definition, huh? We should be thanking God every day for the tremendous gift of salvation and His promise of eternal security in Him!
